Patricia Welsh Obituary

Patricia Andrews Welsh received her unfading, imperishable inheritance and started dwelling in the house of the Lord forever on March 7, 2026. She was a devoted wife, a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, a delightful friend and a diligent servant of Christ. Her faith in Jesus was the fuel of her life. Her tailgating food was a close second. If you stopped by the family car on any given Fall Saturday in Clemson you would find enough chicken tenders, cubes of cheese, and "chewbread" to feed the entire student section. Famous for her quotes about life, perhaps her favorite quote was, "I can see the ocean!" From the rising to the setting of the sun fewer things gave her greater joy than sitting in a chair in the sand at Surfside Beach. She no longer needs the light of the sun for the Lord God is now her light forever.

She was born in Lee County, South Carolina, on September 29, 1934. A graduate of Bishopville High School and the University of South Carolina, she retired after three decades as a schoolteacher – most of that time teaching second-grade at Belvedere Elementary. She was a faithful and joyful member of First Baptist Church, North Augusta – and a faithful and joyful teacher of the Bible to her Sunday School class – and internationally known for her props and object lessons and "Pat-isms" as she taught the Scriptures.

Preceded in death by her husband of 66 years and 11 months, Josey Dow Welsh, Sr.; she is survived by her four children, Anne Matson (John), Lisa Smith (Richard), Sheryl Craig (Larry), Dow Welsh (Karen); nine grandchildren, William (Olivia), Kara, Anna Ryan, Davis (Matti), Bailey, Trent, Carter, Meredith, and Holden; six great-grandchildren, Wells, Warner, Lee, Ranz, Rollin, and Pearl.

She was the daughter of Laurens Ryan Andrews, Sr. and Mattie Carter Andrews of Elliott, South Carolina, and is predeceased by her brother, Laurens Ryan Andrews, Jr.

The family would like to thank all of the staff and her friends at Wellmore, LiveLong, Curana, and Broad River Rehab in Lexington, South Carolina, for loving her and making her a special part of their work families in the final season of her life.

A celebration service will be held at First Baptist Church, North Augusta, South Carolina, at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 14, 2026, with Dow Welsh and Richard Smith officiating. The family will greet guests in the foyer following the service. A private family burial will be held before the service. Memorials can be made to First Baptist Church, North Augusta, South Carolina, 625 Georgia Avenue, North Augusta, South Carolina, 29841.
