Betty Saunders Obituary

Mrs. Betty Garland Saunders, 90, entered into rest on March 3, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, music, and treasured family memories.

The family will greet friends on Thursday, March 12, 2026, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Hatcher Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3464 Jefferson Davis Highway, Graniteville, South Carolina 29829. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Roger Otero officiating. Interment will immediately follow at The Historic Graniteville Cemetery in Graniteville, South Carolina.

Serving as pallbearers will be Brandon Moyer, Jeremy Nolin, Chris Paine, Matthew Moyer, Steven Moyer, and Joshua Moyer, Jr.

Born in Harrison, Georgia, Betty was the daughter of the late Ernest Garland, Sr. and Annie Ruth Whitfield Garland. She retired from the Graniteville Company after many years of faithful service. Betty was a devoted member of Burns United Methodist Church in Augusta, Georgia, where she enjoyed joyfully singing with the congregation.

Music was a special gift in Betty's life. She was known for her lovely singing voice, which she continued to share well into her late eighties. She also loved to dance and was once a member of the CheckerBoard Squares, where she enjoyed the fun and fellowship it brought. In her quieter moments, Betty found joy in cross-stitching, tending her garden, and watching the birds she loved so much. She had such a gentle connection with nature that, on one memorable occasion, a hummingbird even landed in her hand.

Betty was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who deeply cherished her family. She enjoyed capturing life's special moments with her video camera, preserving memories that her loved ones will treasure for years to come. She was also a devoted Atlanta Braves fan and always wanted to know the score, even during her illness.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Christine Brantley, Rudolph Garland, Ernest Garland, Jr., Beulah Smith, Barbara Dillson, and Ruth Quirk.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Darlene Moyer (Patricia Jones) of Savannah, Georgia, Brenda Nolin of Martinez, Georgia, and Darrin Moyer (Amy) of Evans, Georgia; her sister and brother, Nell Knight (Jerry) of Evans, Georgia, and Gene Garland of Aiken, South Carolina; her beloved grandchildren, Brandon Moyer (Carla), Jeremy Nolin (Jennifer), Alayna Paine (Chris), Matthew Moyer (Kendra), Steven Moyer, and Nick Jolly; her treasured great-grandchildren, Joshua Moyer, Jr., Marissa Moyer, Lily Cate Paine, Harrison Nolin, Beckham Nolin, and Julia Paine; her great-great granddaughter, Karsyn Moyer, and her loyal companion, her precious dog, Blondie.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org or to Burns United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 5157, Augusta, Georgia 30916.

Mrs. Betty will be remembered for her warm spirit, her beautiful voice, and the love she so freely shared with her family and friends. She leaves behind many cherished memories that will continue to bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
