Dear Michelle and family,

I just found out about John's untimely passing..please accept my deepest condolences...I was a Refueling Supervisor and John and I worked for years together during many of the Refueling evolutions...John and everyone else called me the "Peep" I am sure you heard it...I have been at NAS JAX since 1995 so it is hard to keep up with everyone but I just can't believe the ROOTMAN is gone..I sure do miss those times together at the Yard with John and all the guys...May God bless the family.

It has been over 2 weeks since John passed and I still cannot believe it. We had many great times together and some really interesting conversations. We really had a blast cooking together on many occasions and many great laughs together as we plotted and schemed against some of our DFAS coworkers. I will miss tremendously the other half as he called us "The Guido Brothers". God bless you Michelle, Jenny, and Stephanie.

To Dot, Michele, and the girls, we knew Johnnie as "JR" and "Mr Bill" while he supported our Activity in Indiana. I still have the rattlesnake rattles he gave me when I visited Charleston some time ago. When I left the Navy a year ago, John went way out of his way to give me a special sendoff, and I will never forget that. I last talked to John right before Christmas. No man loved his family more or would do more for his familly than John. He was a very special man. From what I've read in other guestbook signings, it seems John touched the lives of all he came in contact with. May all the blessings John bestowed upon others in his lifetime come back tenfold in grace to his family as they face a very difficult time. JR, I will really miss you!

Dear Michele and Dot,

Although it has been many years since we all lived in Aichele Terrace. I have always thought of all of you lovingling. Michele, I remember when you and Johnny got married. I thought the two of you were perfectly suited. I remember the time Johnny came to my house to tell me that my dog had gotten run over. As I began to cry, so did he and he told me that he would bury it for me because he knew how hurt I was. My only relative there now is my son, Shawn Livingston. I live in northwestern Arkansas and my son Chris lives in New Mexico. My loving thoughts are with the entire Ruotolo family. Love from Carol Williamson

My name is Rudy.. I was a Nuclear Engineer at CNSYD from '81 to '95. The very first time I met John was when Shop 41 was merged with Shop 11 - I thought it was a dumb idea at first, that is until I met Ruotolo who was working one of my jobs. John was always running around 9,000 RPM when everyone else around him was idling at 1,500 or so. He saved my rearend so many times in the capacity of PDRM (Production Department Refueling Manager - by the way, John was the BEST PDRM that I ever worked with) - he was a motivated individual, thats for sure. No matter what or when, you could always call on John and get exactly (not less) what you needed 24x7. He was a good and decent man that I was proud to call my friend. My life was made better by knowing John Ruotolo.

To the Ruotolo family:

A gentle giant with a giant gentle heart, that was Johnny. He would make me laugh talking about his cat laying on the arm of the chair like a bear-skin rug. I work here at DFAS, and worked at NSC when Diane was there also. May the Lord bless you and yours, and comfort you, knowing that Johnny will always be with us in spirit and in memories.

He was an asset to his community and would do anything within his power to help his friends. He is in God's care now. We will have you in our prayer's and thoughts. Carol and Van

He is in God's care now. Carol and I extend our sympathies to his family and we will keep you in our prayers and thoughts. Carol and Van

Jennifer and Stephanie,

Just want you to know I am thinking of you and your family. Your dad was in my class at BEHS and I will always remember his humor. One thing in particular I recall is he drove us crazy because he always moved his foot up and down during class - surely a nervous twitch. Of course, no one would complain with a nun for a teacher. Boy, would he hear about it during break or at lunch.

Take care of each other and know that you all are in my thoughts and prayers. Ms. Herron

Johnny was a pleasant, thoughtful man who will be greatly missed. I never worked directly with him at DFAS, but did, on several occasions, have the pleasure of dining on his wonderful barbeque. What I will always remember about Johnny is the 'Yellow Bow' he left on my desk during the war in Iraq after finding out that my son was there...such a simple, kind expression that meant more than words. My condolences to the family at this difficult time. May you take comfort in God's promises of eternal life.

My fondest memories of my 25 years at the yard are of fellow workers like John. I always knew work was in good hands when John was involved. If you wanted something done correctly and on time, John was the man to have. His jovial nature always made work pleasant.

Johnny, or as I called him (Root) was one of my best friends since 1974 at the Shipyard. He called me Sunday night and left me a message about one of our old friends, The Jelly; it was late so I planned on calling him Tuesday at work. When Root and I got on the phone, it went for at least an hour talking about our families, ole friends and the good ole "Shipyard Days." We loved the Shipyard.

I will miss Johnny so much, but I know "The Root" has already made good friends; he was that type of guy.

Michele, Stephanie and Jennifer, mine and Gloria's thoughts and prayers will be with you during this most difficult time. Your DAD loved y'all so much; he always talked about each one of you. Thanks Johnny for always being such a good friend but most of all for being you.
