John Francis Rowland
Charleston - John Francis Rowland, 91, husband of Dr. Rose Condon Hamm Rowland, entered into eternal rest Sunday, March 22, 2026. John is also survived by his daughter Jill Ann Rowland.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1:00 PM Friday, March 27, 2026 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 95 Hasell Street, Charleston. The Rite of Committal will be private. A gathering to celebrate his life will follow the service at Charleston Yacht Club, 27 Lockwood Drive from 2:30 - 4 pm.
The family will receive friends between 5:00 and 6:00 PM Thursday, March 26, 2026 at James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. The Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM that evening.
John was preceded in death by his son, Jay Rowland, his sister Margaret Richardson, and brothers Charles Rowland and James Joseph Rowland.
John proudly served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1957 on the USS Forrestal. John worked for AT&T for over 32 years, retired early and served in the reserves.
John graduated from Bishop England High School and was a member of The James Island Yacht Club and The Charleston Yacht Club for decades. He was also an AVID Saltwater Fisherman.
John was a member of St. Mary's Church, The Knights of Columbus, The American Legion and The Elks Lodge for many years.
John's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Charleston Community Sailing or St. Mary's Catholic Church.
