Patricia Finch Obituary

Patricia Thompson Finch
NORTH AUGUSTA, SC - Mrs. Patricia "Fluffy" Thompson Finch, 69, of North
Augusta, passed away unexpectedly at her residence on Monday, May 23, 2016. She was born May 26, 1946 to Lt. Col. Harold Thompson, Sr. and Lola Pickett Thompson in Birmingham, AL. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Rev. Dr. Robert Harold Thompson, II, and one sister, Elizabeth Thompson.
Pat was an active member of Lutheran Church of the Resurrection. She was a management and marketing cum laude graduate of USC-Aiken, including member-officer service in Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity. She was a retired business administrator and impassioned supporter of the arts community, most notably as Executive Director of the Augusta Symphony and Business Manager of the Augusta Choral Society. Pat accrued decades of enthusiastic civic contributions and honors, including North Augusta Women's Club Woman of the Year (1988), Augusta Chronicle's 25 Women Who Make a Difference (1993), CSR Girl Scouts Woman of Excellence (1993), Leadership Augusta graduate (1994), Metro Augusta Chamber of Commerce / Augusta Business magazine Woman of the Year (1995), and Greater Augusta Arts Council Arts Professional of the Year (1996). Her lifelong love of reading was manifest in her many years volunteering for the Nancy Carson Library, who honored her in 1989 with a commemorative brick in new library construction. Following retirement, Pat's greatest joy was playing with her grandchildren and spending time with family.
Pat is survived by her husband, Donald R. Finch, PhD of North Augusta; one son, D. Bryan Finch, of Greer, SC; one daughter, Jenna Gillis, and husband Bret of Summerville, SC; "Anna Pat's" four grandchildren - Matthew and Zachary Finch of Greer, SC, and Noah and Hope Gillis of Summerville, SC; one brother, John Thompson of Seneca, SC; two sisters - Kathryn Ringel and husband Eugene, and Cecelia Flanders and husband Joe, both of Martinez, GA; 14 nieces and nephews, along with a number of great-nieces and great-nephews.
At Pat's request, her body was donated to Augusta University / Medical College of Georgia for the advancement of science. The memorial service, officiated by Pastor David B. Hunter, Sr., will be Saturday, June 4, 11:00 a.m. at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service. Memorials may be given to Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 825 Greene Street, Augusta, GA 30901.

I have wonderful memories of Fluffy, my best friend CC's older sister. Fluffy was a beautiful southern lady even as a young teenager. Prayers and love to the entire extended Thompson family. Sheila

Pat was an enthusiastic servant of the community. I enjoyed working with her as we moved the library from place to place while constructing the new one. She left her fingerprints on the progress of this area. Sympathy to the family...

Miss you already, Aunt Fluffy ~

Pat and I became good friends and mutually acknowledged with respect and warm humor how our paths were interdependent in spite of our opposing roles when she managed the Augusta Symphony. Apologizing to her for being the Ruth Berry that I am which includes worker advocacy communications that disrupt status quo from time to time opened a life-affirming, deeply respectful friendship for us.The CSRA has lost an important person to our civic well-being. She was a loyal and enthusiastic supporter of musicians; the last time I saw her was at a Lyra Vivace concert. I will miss her.

To the Finch Family:

I was saddened to see a familiar face looking back at me from the obituaries this morning. Pat and I served together in the Greater Augusta Advertising Club many years ago. I remember her love for the arts. So sad to see she is no longer with us.

My deepest condolences,
