Karen,
I am so sorry for Walter's passing. I know he has struggled for so long and it had to have been awful for all of you. I want you to know that you are in my thoughts and I will always have fond memories of Walter. I couldn't be there today but please know I was there in spirit.

Dear Karen and Anna, I am so sorry for your loss. Just thinking about Walter makes me smile, he was truly one of Charleston's most beloved characters. Above all else, he always said the two of you were his best accomplishments. My prayers and best wishes are with you and all your family.

Dear family of Walter,
I went to Cathedral Grammer School with Walter, served mass and giggled through father Sterker's sermons and enjoyed his company at the University of South Carolina. After moving away from Charleston, we still sent hellos back and forth through my brother David. Please accept my deepest condolences and thoughts for his family and friends.

Dear Karen and Anna..Wendy and I are so sorry we can't be there, as you know how close Walter and I were. I'll miss seeing him as he always had a way of making me laugh. I know it's been a tough few years for you and I hope the out pouring of love from his friends will help you during this tough time. Our boys all express their condolences too. Sincerely...Alan and Wendy

To the members of the family of Walter Ehrhardt,
Please accept my condolences and know that I am praying for you. I met Walter while on retreat at Mepkin Abbey nearly 10 years ago. It was our first, last and only meeting, but oddly enough, we had some mutual associations- not necessarily the norm for a young Black man and an older White man, but not as strange as us meeting at a monastery. At any rate, I was able to hear about how he was doing from time to time over the years from those mutual associations. I like to think that that one meeting has had a positive influence on how I carry out my ministry, and I am grateful to God for the encounter.
In God's Peace, Love and Service,
