Janice Cook
Adams Run - Janice Cook, 90, of Adams Run, South Carolina, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Stratford Place in Goose Creek. Born February 9, 1935, in Lake City, South Carolina, Janice was the daughter of the late Oliver and Elizabeth Moore. A lifelong learner, she graduated from Furman University with a bachelor's degree in mathematics, achieving top honors as valedictorian of her class. Janice began her career as a programmer with IBM, later answered a calling to teach as a high school mathematics educator at Country Day School, and retired from Unisun Insurance Company as an insurance rater. Janice was a faithful and devoted member of Hopewell Baptist Church for more than 60 years. Her love for the Lord was evident through her tireless service, including roles as Church Secretary, Sunday School teacher, and Vacation Bible School Director. She founded the Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child ministry at Hopewell and found great joy in seeing the church share Christ's love with children around the world. Janice lived her faith daily, humbly serving others and reflecting God's grace through her kindness, wisdom, and steadfast devotion. She will be remembered as a woman of unwavering faith, deep compassion, and wholehearted love for her family and friends. Janice treasured time spent teaching, reading God's Word and other books, solving crossword puzzles, enjoying music, and caring for animals. Above all, she sought to honor God in every season of her life. In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Burke Cook; two sons, Gary Cook and Randall Cook; and her grandson, Nicholas Cook. She is survived by two daughters, Diane Bull (Witte) of Holly Hill and Amy Waddell (Bob) of Ridgeville; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, all of whom will cherish her godly example and loving legacy. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church, 6869 Parkers Ferry Road, Adams Run, South Carolina. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 p.m., officiated by the Reverend Naveen Balakrishnan. Interment will conclude in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Janice's honor to Hopewell Baptist Church. Donations will be designated toward the church's 2026 Operation Christmas Child goal of sending 540 gift-filled shoeboxes to children in need around the world. Expressions of sympathy may be viewed or submitted online at avingerfh.com. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Avinger Funeral Home, 2274 Eutaw Road, Holly Hill, SC 29059, (803)496-3434.
