Timothy Mitchum Obituary

Timothy Mitchum DENVER, CO - Timothy "Tim" Mitchum, 54, passed away on December 27, 2018, surrounded by family at his home in Denver, Colorado. Even throughout his painful battle with cancer, Tim remained loving and kind to the end. He will be sorely missed by friends and family. Tim was born and raised in Charleston, SC. He attended Furman University and graduated from the College of Charleston in 1986. After graduation, Tim began his 30-year Civil Service career at the Naval Supply Center in Charleston. He later moved to the Washington, DC area to further his career and to broaden his horizons. He worked in the budget field for both the Department of Navy and the US Marshal Service. In 2017, Tim transferred to the US Marshal office in Denver, to be closer to his sister and her family. From an early age, Tim loved the arts and loved to perform - playing the piano and singing in church as a child, competing on the forensics team, performing in plays, and singing in choirs in both high school and college. After college, he continued to perform in various choirs and community theater productions in both Charleston and Washington, DC. After losing his partner in 1992, Tim became involved in the AIDS Memorial Quilt Project in DC. Tim was an avid reader and quick study; he became a wealth of information on a variety of topics - from politics to history, from baking to metal forging. During this past year, to the delight of his sister's family, he researched and perfected the art of high-altitude baking to produce phenomenal cookies in his new "Mile-High" home of Denver. Tim is survived by his father, Joe (Pauline) Mitchum, of North Charleston, SC; his sister, Deb (Carol) Mitchum and his nephew, Michael Rodriguez, of Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Mitchum; his partner, Rick Unger; and his devoted Siamese cat, Penelope. Should friends desire, contributions may be made to The Trevor Project (www.thetrevorproject.org). A Celebration of Life will be held in Charleston, SC at a later date. For the Family of Tim - I worked with him over the phone for many years here at the U.S. Marshals Service. Although I never met him in person we laughed on our phone conversations, each and every time, I'll miss that. Thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

I will always remember cousin Tim with love. He could make me giggle and laugh with his humor. My love, prayers and thoughts are with the family.
