I had known Tommy since 5th grade together. He was a gentle giant who always had a kind word. We played football and soccer together in high school and kept up our friendship until his passing. I miss him.

I am saddened to say that I only just now learned of Tommy's passing by reading the "Charleston Mercury" today. It was my privilege to know and work with Tommy for a short while not many months ago.
A big man with a bigger heart and great laugh. It was my joy to spend time with Tommy each and every time our paths crossed. May the Lord's Grace Shine Brightly now on Tommy.

Sweet Tommy,
It came as such a shock, and I am so saddened today to find out about your passing. In the short 7 years that I was lucky enough to know you, you were one of my favorite people and always the perfect gentleman. It just breaks my heart. I am so sorry I wasn't able to tell you how much you touched my life. I do know one thing, and that is that you are in the loving arms of our wonderful Lord Jesus Christ because of the way you loved the Lord and lived your life! You have been on my mind so much lately. I had lost your phone number but was going to reach out to you to just say hi. You were always so sweet to me and I so enjoyed going to various events around Charleston with you and meeting your family and friends several years back. It is such a regret not getting to tell you before you left this world how much your friendship meant to me. I would not have missed your funeral for the anything and it breaks my heart that I wasn't there. God bless you Tommy! You will surely be missed! Thank you for your wonderful friendship in the short time I knew you, but I do know that one day I will see you again.
God Bless You my dear friend,
Sissy Baker

The French Huguenots of Charleston will surely miss Tommy LeMacks. He always sat in his pew right side near the front, and if it was spring or summer, most likely dressed in his blue seersucker. He could see the crape myrtle out the window.

For years Tommy helped our beloved preacher, Phil Bryant serve Communion, which Tommy referred to as "bartending". We will miss his welcome hug and his loyal spirit. He was a true Charlestonian.

Harry Bailey and I were saddened to hear of your passing. We found out too late to arrange to attend your memorials in Charleston.

With this I am reminding others that our bonds date back to our service in the military during the 1960s and have lasted for the intervening two score and seven years. We have attended each others weddings, children's weddings and other spontaneous togetherness over these years. We are sorry to miss your last hurrah.

I am sorry I never took the opportunity to thank you directly for the role you played in maintaining those bonds. By staying in touch and making arrangements for us to meet, you corralled us in a way we couldn't have managed otherwise.

Though others in our lives couldn't understand it, the Vietnam experience could have been negative for our later lives, the opposite has proved to be the case. We can thank you for keeping the relationships alive and maintaining our friendship in the decades since we served together.

I hope you have gone to a better place. If you have, please send us passes since we probably wouldn't get in on our own.

Goodbye good friend!

Tommy LeMacks was one of the first members of Fort Sumter Camp SCV that I met when I came to Charleston in 1992. Over the years, whether seeing him around town or at group gatherings (SCV, Palmetto Guard, CYC, etc.),Tommy always gave me an uplifted feeling by his positive nature and buoyant spirit. I salute a Past Commander of Fort Sumter Camp 1269 SCV, and Mary Gordon and I extend our sincerest sympathy to his family.

My family did not know Tommy very well but 5 years ago when my father died ( after reading that my father had graduated from Porter Military Academy ) Tommy personally brought the Porter flag and placed it by his casket the night of his wake. We were very touched and so grateful for his thoughtfulness. Prayers are with you all during this difficult time. Louise Bennett Anderson
