Steve Grooms Obituary

Steve "Beagle" Roland Grooms, age 84, of Summerville, SC went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, March 13, 2026 at his residence surrounded by family and friends. A celebration of Life will be held at 3:00pm on

Sunday, March 22, 2026 at Boone Hill United Methodist Church, 801 Boone Hill Road, Summerville, SC 29483, with Pastor Rob Rabernsterin and Howard Crosby officiating.

Burial will follow in Cemetery Memory Gardens, 11000 Dorchester Road, Summerville SC 29485. Visitations will be one hour prior to the service.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Julius Clarence and Maggie Mae Busch Grooms; his son, Robert "Bobby" Steven Grooms; his sister, Delores G Charpia; and his brother Kenneth F Grooms.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of sixty-two years Vivian Gowder Grooms; daughter, DeAnna (Bert) Jones of Cartersville, Ga; a son, Tracy (Tammy) Grooms of Summerville, SC; five grandchildren: Andrew Jones, Krista Grooms, Katharine (Bryan) Guzman, Matthew (Anna) Grooms, Amanda Kay (Chris) Daniels; four great-grandchildren: Kherington Leigh Jones, Hadley Mae Jones, Thomas Joseph Grooms, Eleanor Grace Grooms; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Steve Roland Grooms was born May 27, 1941 to Julius and Maggie Grooms. Steve grew up in Knightsville and attended Summerville High School . From there, his life through military services would take him across the country and

around the world before coming home to SC. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and received an honorable discharge. He married Vivian Lee Gowder on the same date as his sister and brother anniversary April 16, 1963.

He worked for the Charleston Naval Shipyard for 30+years as a Nuclear Electrician and Mechanically inclined and widely respected for his creative problem-solving abilities. In addition to his career with Charleston Naval Shipyard, he had multiple successful business ventures. His work ethic was a great example and encouragement to his family. He will be remembered as a wise, good and charitable man of God.

He was a wonderful and faithful loving husband for sixty-two years. He was a loving father who always set a godly example for his children and grandchildren. He loved and served God faithfully

as Trustee and Usher with Merry Makers and United Methodist Men at Boone Hill United Methodist Church.

Steve, affectionately referred to by his family and childhood friends, a true outdoors-man, "Mr. MacGyver", a prankster, telling stories, enjoyed playing checkers, hunting, fishing, a good fish fry, listening to Country and Southern Gospel music and traveling.

His travels with Church were a high point of his many fond memories. He loved his family and friends with everything he had, and we will miss him dearly. Through this pain we are praising our Lord for his promises. We know he is leaping and dancing in his fully healed and restored eternal body in the presence of our Savior.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Jones, Matthew Grooms, Pat Grooms, Hunter Grooms, Don Charpia, and Corey Westbrook.

The family wishes to express special thanks to Va and Family Hospice of Greenville for the loving compassionate care they provided to our father.

Celebration of life service will be held on Sunday March 22, 2026 3:00 pm at Boone Hill United Methodist Church 801 Boone Hill Road, Summerville, SC 29483. Visitation will be held one hour before service at the church.
