Patricia A. Coggins
Summerville - Patricia A. Thomas Coggins, 93, entered eternal rest on March 4, 2026. Born in Miley, SC, on July 14, 1932, to the late English and Reba Thomas, Patricia remained forever grounded by her humble childhood. She was known for her gracious spirit and a quiet, giving nature, often going out of her way to help others.
A 1950 graduate of Brunson High School, she attended Winthrop and USC before earning a B.A. in English from the University of Saint Mary. As a soldier's wife of 61 years, she was the resilient anchor for her family through 12 global moves and her husband's two deployments to Vietnam. An accomplished artist and bridge player, she achieved the distinguished ACBL Life Master award, and she deeply cherished the world-class galleries and exhibitions she was privileged to visit during her extensive travels.
For more than a decade, Patricia was a resident at The Village at Summerville. She and her family were profoundly appreciative of the exceptional and compassionate care she received there, particularly during the final years of her life.
She was predeceased by her husband, James E. Coggins; her son, James E. Coggins III; grandson, Daniel A. Coggins; and her brother, Richard Thomas. She is survived by her sons: Clark (Dariana), Greg (Tom), and Andrew (Tory); and five grandchildren: Phillip, Brooke, Sara, Brantley, and Michael.
A Visitation will be Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 11:00am to 12:00pm at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, 303 S. Main Street, Summerville, SC 29483. The Funeral Service will begin at 12:00pm in the Chapel. Flowers will be accepted. Interment will follow at Riverview Memorial Park.
