Karen Joan Farrell Obituary

Karen Joan Farrell

Mt. Pleasant - Born on April 28, 1952, in Willowdale, Ontario, Karen was the cherished daughter of the late Harold Hilliard and the late Joan Creerey Hilliard. Throughout her life, she embraced her roles with grace and dedication, particularly as a devoted homemaker. Karen's passions were numerous; she found joy in playing tennis and pickleball, cruising on her bicycle, and skiing, activities that reflected her vibrant spirit and love for the outdoors. She was an active member of the USTA (US Tennis Association) and was an adult 55 and over SC state champion in 2013 as well as mixed adult league SC state champion in 2014. Karen had a great love of horses and grew up riding with her friends in Ontario, CA, and was a member of the 12 girl pony club. Karen and the girls of the club completed a 32 mile ride in the summer of 1966 outside Uxbridge, ON. Karen skied all over North America and Europe including NM, VT, PA, NY, CO, British Columbia. In 1973 she received a certificate of elite skier from Garmisch recreation area, Germany.

Karen is survived by her beloved husband, John Thomas Farrell, and their four sons: Christopher Farrell (Brittney) of Awendaw, SC; John William Farrell (Courtney) of Hamburg, NY; Matthew Farrell of Philipsburg, MT; and Marc Farrell (Alie) of Hamburg, NY. In addition, she leaves behind ten adoring grandchildren: Natalie, Audrey, Lila, Mason, Levi, Asher, Daniel, Violet, Isabel, and Luke, who will carry her memory in their hearts forever. Karen is also survived by many loved nieces and nephews, each of whom knew the warmth and kindness she expressed throughout her life.

Nayak & I are so saddened to hear of our good friend and tennis partner Karen passing. She was a very sweet, always smiling and very talented friend. We're going to miss her tremendously. We have so many great memories here in IOP playing tennis and pickleball with y'all and going to y'all's Lake Erie home and going many years to the Cincinnati Open and skiing in another trip. Condolences to you John and your family that God will give y'all strength through this difficult time. Hold on to the beautiful memories of your loved one, Karen.

Dear Farrell family - John, John, Chris, Matt & Marc! I miss you all. I miss your mom's incredible energy and fun. She was such a special part of my childhood and an incredible support to our family through good and bad times. I haven't seen her in over a decade but I can still hear the way she laughs, it always made me laugh in turn. Sending you all love and I hope to get to see you this summer. Here's some photos I had dug out a long time ago for my mom's bday, and some old photos of Karen at my mom's surprise 60th that she flew up for.

I´ll never forget Auntie Karen helping me ride honey at her place. I have some of the best memories with her and my mom. She was always warm, kind, and fun and I´m grateful for the many ways she touched my life.
