Dear Betty: We were sadened to hear of Jack's death. We were recently in Charleston visiting family and a trip to Clemson on the way back home in New Hampshire and had been taking about about Jack and how he had been such a wonderful friend and colleague. We both owe much to this wonderful man. He brought Erv to Charleston Naval Shipyard after graduating from Clemson, and Jack and I served together at the Naval Civilian Managers Association. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and yours during this time.

Dear Betty: I am so sad to hear of Jack's death. The two of you taught me in Training Union (1950's) at First Baptist Church No Charleston. Those days are precious memories of a fine man, Jack, whom I loved and admired. My brother, Johnny Johnson died in 1996 at age 50 with the same kind of cancer. He also knew Jack because they both worked at the Naval Shipyard. You both knew my parents, Charlie and Edith Johnson. Dad died in 1998 and Mom is doing well at age 93 at Twin Oaks Villa there in No. Chas. I have been working at my church here in Jonesboro, GA (near Atlanta) for the past 11 years and God has blessed my family. I have three boys and two precious grandsons, ages 5 and almost 2.
I will keep you in my prayers.
Love in Christ, "Scootie"

Jack was a wonderful man who strongly supported our efforts at Bonds Wilson and North Charleston High Schools. I worked with this amazing man on projects for the school for a number of years. He also became an advisor for my own mother when she was diagnosed with asbestosis. He was a true gentleman who will be missed.

Jack will be sorely missed. Personally I’m very appreciative of all of the things that he did for me including helping us build the wonderful building at Carolina First Center as well as assisting with getting my godson into Clemson. He was truly a very generous man in all aspects of his life.

I was a naval officer assigned to the Charleston Navy Yard from '78-'83. Work there was hard; 24/7. The Cold War was on, and we were cut little slack by the naval authorities for time to complete our work. There were a few bright lights, however, and Jack Day was at the very top of my list. He was a brilliant engineer and manager, superb with people, and especially in stressful situations. Calm, cool, and collected, Jack helped us all to cope. He had a magnificent reputation that went well beyond the shipyard, and it was centered on people, and on caring. I am honored to consider him always as my friend. My prayers are with his family; his exemplary life on earth assures us that he will not need our prayers in Heaven.

Mrs. Betty Day and Family: Jack was a fine Christian friend and mentor. On a visit last summer to Charleston, I saw Jack at Publix buying some roses for his "wonderful wife"...in his own words. I know Jack was a wonderful husband, father and leader. Jack helped me get a job at the shipyard and recruited me at Clemson to come back home to Charleston. He was a pretty good 1st baseman on the softball team as well. I believe that Jack and my Dad will paint their mansions in heaven a true Clemson orange! He's home now...he will be sadly missed, but his work completed. I know that Jack will hear the words from Jesus..."well done, good and faithful servant". That was Jack. You and your entire family will be in our prayer and you celebrate Jack's sendoff to Heaven.

to Betty Day and Family:
I consider Jack a good friend ever since I met him in Ms Collier's math class at N. Chas High School in the early fifties. He has been one of my favorite people since then due to his great personality, wit, humor, and intelligence.I enjoyed chatting with Jack when he would stop by or see him at Blackwells hardware. I am deeply saddened by his passing. No words can ease the pain and saddness but I hope the family will find some comfort in knowing how I and others feel about Jack. There is a new star in Heaven to night. God bless the family of Jack
and may you find comfort.
