Frederick Henry Horlbeck WADMALAW ISLAND - Frederick Henry HORLBECK, age 95, passed away peacefully January 11, 2023 at his home on Wadmalaw Island surrounded by loving family. Born in Charleston on February 9, 1927, he made his home on his beloved Wadmalaw Island for nearly 50 years. A Navy veteran of the Pacific theater during World War II, Mr. Horlbeck graduated from the Taft School, and following the war, he studied at Brown University, where he obtained his B.A. in political science in 1950 and his M.B.A at Harvard Business School in 1952. That year he married Eleanor "Ellie" Greene Horlbeck of Hanover, NH. Mr. Horlbeck is survived by his loving wife of more than 70 years, Ellie, three daughters, Barbara Eleanor Horlbeck (John I. Norton III) of Saint Paul, Minnesota, Joan Elizabeth Horlbeck of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Eleanor Horlbeck Thompson (R. Kirk Thompson III) of Manhattan Beach, California, and five granddaughters, Caitie Ryan-Norton, Ellie Norton, and Katie (Dale Kim), Jill and Tracy Thompson, along with two sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law and a cadre of adoring nieces and nephews.
