Ernest Miner Comar, Jr. MT. PLEASANT - Ernest Miner Comar, Jr., 64, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2024 in Mount Pleasant, SC after an extended illness. His Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, November 4, 2024, at the graveside, St. Lawrence Cemetery, 60 Huguenin Avenue, Charleston. Ernie "Sandy" was born on April 14, 1960 in Charleston SC, the son of Ernest Miner Comar, Sr. and Joanne Morris Comar. He grew up in downtown Charleston playing sports on the old Museum grounds and at Moultrie Playground. He lettered in tennis at Bishop England High School and was a good swimmer. He graduated from the College of Charleston, where he enjoyed his time as a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. Ernie's early years were shaped by the nurturing love of his parents and nearby friends while living on Bennett Street. His father was a federal probation officer and his mother worked for many years for the Catholic Diocese of Charleston. He was proud of his father's service in the United States Air Force. Ernie worked for the Department of Social Services for 26 years as a compliance investigator. After attending college, he lived at and managed the family beach house on the Isle of Palms. He loved the Sea Biscuit cafe;, the owners and several of the long-time employees. He also loved magic and performed many magic shows over the years for his friends. He is survived by his uncles, John Morris (Jennie) of Columbia, SC and Kelly Morris (Karen) of Atlanta, GA; his cousins, John Boniface and his siblings; his cousin, Paul Comar; his nephews, Brian Ruth (Christina) and Austin Foster as well as his niece, Samantha Foster. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Kelly Comar Foster. Honorary pallbearers are John Boniface, Mike Mullen, Ray Caulder, Kevin Salmonsen, Dean Ward, Jervey Donaldson, Pack Fowler, Lewis Evans and Mark Evans. Arrangements By James A. McAlister, Inc.
