Cissy Parades Obituary

Cissy Jane Parades CHARLESTON - Cissy Jane Parades, at the age of 74, left us to be with the Lord on February 3, 2021. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri on December 17, 1946. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin Harrison Gibbons and Margaret Sloan Gibbons. Cissy graduated high school from Dupont High School in Jacksonville, Florida. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Florida State University and a Master's degree in Education from the College of Charleston. Cissy was the head of an agency serving individuals with disabilities under Governor Richard Riley before she became a career educator. While Cissy taught many grade levels over the years, she spent the majority of her career at the College of Charleston, where she served as the Director of Student Teaching and Certification and as a professor in the Education Department. At the center of Cissy's life was always her family. Cissy was working as a flight attendant for United Airlines when she fell in love with a man from the Navy. Less than a year and a half later, Cissy and Michael R. Parades were married at the Little Church Around the Corner in New York City. Michael and Cissy were married for 51 years. Cissy was a strong, joyful, giving, kind, patient woman who loved spending time with her family and friends. A supportive mother, Cissy was involved in parent associations at both Ashley Hall and Wofford College. She was always present on the sidelines at Ashley Hall, eagerly cheering on her daughter at all of her volleyball matches. Cissy had an amazing sense of humor and loved a good laugh. She was an incredible listener and a loyal and trusted mother, wife, sister and friend. Cissy was an avid reader, lover of sports and had a soft spot in her heart for animals. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Michael; daughter, Courtney P. Plotner (Jeff); dearly loved grandsons, Judson, Barnes and Tucker Plotner; sister, Susan J. Wegener; nephews, Nick Wegener (Danielle) and Tyler Wegener (Laura); and great-nephews and nieces, Wyatt and Lilly Wegener (Nick) and Isabel and Wesley Wegener (Tyler). Cissy was preceded in death by her parents and beloved brother-in-law, Wayne T. Wegener. A private service for family will be held later this month. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Parkinson's Foundation. Parkinson's Foundation:Attn: Donor Services/Carolina's Chapter, 200 S.E.
