Delano Luther Chavous
Aiken - Delano "Hunkie" Chavous, son of Luther and Ethel Smith Chavous. He was born on February 14, 1941 in Aiken, SC and departed on February 6, 2026 at his residence.. At a young age, Hunkie joined Zion Hill Baptist Church. He attended Martha Schofield High School as a part of class of 1959. Delano was united in holy wedlock to Deloris Vaughns (who preceded him in death). Immediately after marriage, they relocated to Jamaica, NY. He was employed by the New York City Transit Authority for 20 years as a trackman. Delano also had a entepreneural spirit and owned a home improvement business for 55 years. He leaves to mourn him: 2 sons, Gregory Chavous, Aiken, SC, and Daryl (Leslie) Chavous, Jonesboro, GA; 7 grandchildren:; 2 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday at Jackson-Brooks Memorial Chapel, 126 Fairfield St, SE, Aiken, SC 29801. Burial will follow in the Seabrook Chavous Family Cemetery, Highway 278 and Palisades Drive. Friends may visit Jackson-Brooks Funeral Home, Aiken, Thursday from 3 PM 7 PM .
