Patricia Quinn Obituary

Patricia "Patti" Ann Quinn (Turk), 85, of Summerville, wife of Roy Quinn, passed away on Monday, December 20, 2021 at Harmony of Wescott Plantation. Born in Ada, Oklahoma to Hal Dillard and Presha Maude Turk, she was raised in Berkeley, California. Patti graduated from San Jose State University with a Bachelor's degree in Education and Physical Education. Her enthusiasm for life and love of other cultures led her to take a position with the U.S. Department of Defense as a teacher in Nuremberg, Germany where she met a young U.S. tank platoon leader who would become her beloved husband of 59 years.

After her adventurous 3-year stint in Europe where she travelled though out Europe and Russia, Patti returned with her husband to Camden, South Carolina and took on her most meaningful challenge leading the integration of South Carolina schools. Patti eagerly led the integration efforts in Kershaw County as a teacher and coach to bring together children and teachers of all ethnicities ending segregation in the schools. Over the decades as a beloved Geography, History and PE teacher she taught thousands of students, many at Baron Dekalb High, Camden Middle and Lugoff-Elgin Middle and High schools. At the end of her teaching career Patti became a registered tour guide in historic Charleston and loved sharing her knowledge and insight into the rich history of the famous low country city.

As a devoted Christian Patti loved God's creation and His word. If she wasn't in nature, she was with her dear church friends and family praising God in spirit and in song. Daily, she could be heard singing with a clear, pure voice blessing all who heard. Patti loved being a grandmother. Ama Patti was so proud of their grandchildren, always anticipating and cherishing each visit.

She leaves behind her loving husband, Roy, her daughters Kelly Elizabeth Larsen of Racine WI, Melissa Ann Cruse of Summerville SC, and Susanna Leigh Auf der Maur (Donat) of Lucerne, Switzerland; grandchildren, Luke Larsen, Mason Cruse, Aidan Auf der Maur, Lydia Larsen, Anna Patricia Auf der Maur, and Aaron Larsen; as well as a beloved brother Monte Turk (Erla) of Sedalia, Colorado. Patti is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins throughout the country.

In addition to her parents, Patti was preceded in death by her brother Ralph; sisters, Virginia, Neva Lee and Dolly.

Family and friends are invited to attend her visitation on Monday, January 10, 2022 from 5 o'clock to 7 o'clock at James A. Dyal Funeral Home. A funeral service will be officiated by David Clayton and held on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at 11 o'clock at Summerville Church of Christ, 413 Old Trolly Rd., Summerville, SC 29483.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Downtown Women's Center [email protected] directed by Patti's niece, Amy Turk.

I cannot remember when I last saw my great-Aunt "Pan." But like my grandmother and all her aunts and sisters, she was a force to be around. Thoughtful memories to Uncle Roy and their daughters.
