William Thermon Beavers, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, peacefully departed this world on January 28, 2026, in Seneca, South Carolina.
Born on November 9, 1943, in
Greenville, South Carolina, "Billy", or "Bill" was the only child of the late Alvin and Mattie Beavers. Billy lived a life marked by service, laughter, and a deep love for his family, his church, and his community.
He was a follower of Jesus Christ and Jehovah God, growing his faith under the PCA and ECO Presbyterian theologies. He served at First Presbyterian in Greenville for 30 years, where he served as a past President of his Koinonia Life Group. He ministered to some of the under-served affluent followers of Christ in Wyoming, maintaining those new friendships until his death. He also supported programs and was active in outreach to the downtrodden who were under the watch-care of the church through various ministries.
Late in life, Bill served with Redeemer Presbyterian Church in
Travelers Rest, SC, where he delighted in supporting new church plantings, Biblical teaching, the welcoming inclusion of all, and the many children in every service.
A proud veteran, Billy served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, where he was stationed in both Pleiku and Nha Trang from 1965 to 1966. His service to his country, while not without sacrifices including the disastrous life long affects of Agent Orange, helped to shape his strong character and dedication in helping others. As a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion, and a former member of the Air Force Sergeants Association and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), he was an advocate for fellow service members.
Bill enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as a letter carrier, which he loved. He was a member and past president of Branch 439, National Association of Letter Carriers, ALF-CIO. He was a friend to many of his mail patrons and on his daily rounds, he watched over many as if they were family.
He appreciated a good story, and much like Andrew Jackson, thought little of a man who could only spell a word one way, or share a tale that could only be told one way. He often joked of his "nodding acquaintance with the truth," charming those he met with his unique perspective on life and humor, and he never met a stranger.
Billy was deeply rooted in his heritage, proudly claiming his Huguenot roots from Germany and transplants to France, as well as Scottish-Irish, Native American, and northern European ancestry. He was a life member of Masonic Keowee Lodge 79, and a member of the Hejaz Shrine Temple, where he demonstrated his affection for widows and suffering children.
Billy is survived by his loving wife, Jacqueline Beavers; his devoted children, William T. "Skip" Beavers Jr. (Kim) and Sharm Haimbaugh (Dennis); and cherished grandchildren, Joshua Beavers, Alexandria Haimbaugh, Camille Hamrick (Addison), Erica Dilaura (Michael), and Audrey Beth Haimbaugh. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren, Becket and Felix Dilaura, and twins Hudson and Mason, and their baby sister Eliza Hamrick, who will carry on in service to others as they grow.
Family, friends, and all who knew him are invited to honor him at visitation on Monday, February 2, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. The celebration of Billy's remarkable life will take place Tuesday February 3, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., with a graveside service at the M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson SC, where he will be laid to rest with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that any memorial contributions be made in Bill's name to the
Shriner's Hospital for Children at https://www.shrinerschildrens.org/en/locations/greenville, or to the Soup Kitchen of your choice, or to anyone in need of a hand up. In his words, "there, but for the grace of God, go I". Through the acts of kindness of others, those less fortunate will be honored by their helping hands.
Billy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him, a spirited soul with a huge heart. He will be dearly missed.
