Leo Moersen, born March 7, 1930, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026, at the age of 96. Born in
Columbus, Nebraska, and raised in Grand Island, he spent his childhood developing a deep curiosity for how things work. That passion led him to Marquette University, where he graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, but more importantly, it was the place where he met his future wife, Donna Dullea Moersen.
Leo and Donna married in 1953, embarking on a remarkable life together that spanned seven decades.
He began his career with the Atomic Energy Commission in New Mexico, but quickly returned to Wisconsin to kick-start his illustrious career with the Kimberly-Clark Corporation, where he spent the next 38 years until his retirement in 1991. Throughout his career, he relocated to various manufacturing facilities across the US:
Neenah, WI,
Niagara Falls, NY,
New Milford, CT, and
Beech Island, SC, but ultimately landed in
Paris, TX where he built the first Huggies diapers and Pull-Up training pant facilities from the ground up. Leo was a beloved manager to the thousands of employees in the facilities he oversaw, developing a personal relationship with every member of the team. His "management by walking around," respected each employee's individual contributions and knew everyone by name.
Leo became a private pilot and loved to fly his single engine plane whenever possible. In retirement, he pursued a passion for golf and remained physically active well into his 80's. He lived a long, full, beautiful life, marked by his dedication to his family, friends, employees and community.
Leo will be remembered for his kindness, wisdom, quick wit, and unwavering generosity, leaving a lasting impact on all those who knew him. His presence brought warmth, laughter and guidance to all those around him, and his memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration.
He is survived by his wife Donna, his soulmate and inspiration for 73 years; his four sons, Leo (wife Marta, son Rafi, daughter Maria), Mark (wife Margie, daughters Tricia and Cristina, and son Ian), Thomas (wife Susan, sons Jay and Neal, and daughter Emily) and Peter (wife Bobbi, daughter Meghan and son Matthew) and their families. He will be deeply missed by his sons, daughter-in-laws, ten grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Celebration of Leo's life will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, 3:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel.
