Jesse Lamar Jackson, affectionately known as "Beaver," was born on May 11, 1948, in
Spartanburg, South Carolina, to the late Matsie Landrum Jackson and the late Otis Lee Jackson.
He began his formal education at Mary McLeod Bethune School and later continued his academic journey at Foster's Grove High School. A man of remarkable skill and integrity, Jesse pursued a career as a professional glazier, expertly fitting glass into the soaring structures of high-rise buildings. His craftsmanship and dedication to excellence earned him the respect of colleagues and clients alike.
A gifted mechanic and the trusted "go-to" for many, Jesse was the type of man who could solve a problem with his hands and offer wisdom with his words. Known for his sharp wit and good-natured humor, he possessed a magnetic presence that brought comfort and joy to those around him.
Jesse's love for Westerns, particularly the adventures of Marshal Matt Dillon in Gunsmoke, revealed his appreciation for justice, courage, and the simplicity of times past. He also found joy in the culinary arts, and his kitchen was often filled with the rich aroma of meals lovingly prepared for family and friends.
His faith was unwavering, and his service to God was both sincere and steadfast. As a devoted member of Greater Bible Way Miracle Temple, Jesse served faithfully in the Brotherhood Ministry and the Greeters Ministry. With a welcoming spirit and a servant's heart, he embodied the essence of hospitality and brotherhood within the household of faith.
Jesse Lamar Jackson was a man of strength, humility, and enduring compassion. His legacy is etched in the lives he touched, the wisdom he shared, and the love he so freely gave. His presence will be deeply missed, yet his spirit will remain alive in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death, along with his parents, by sisters, Olive S. Gray and Linda Benjamin; beloved daughter, Lakesha J. Camp; and godson, Christopher Fowler.
