Gloria was born on April 12, 1941, in Humacao, Puerto Rico, to Marcia T. Espinosa and Tomas De Jesus. At the age of ten, she relocated to New York, where she completed her education. Gloria attended Thomas Knowlton Middle School and graduated with high honors from Grace Dodge Vocational High School, earning her diploma as a legal secretary.
She began her professional career at a legal law firm, where her dedication to justice and advocacy became a lifelong commitment. Gloria met and married Hillary Peña and together they welcomed four children into their family. While there, she worked diligently for many years. processing legal documents and providing essential Spanish interpretations for clients in need. She continued to serve until her retirement, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and support.
When her marriage to Hillary ended, she found love again with Hugo Garcia, and they built a life together for over 30 years until his passing in 2019. Following her mother and sister from New York to South Carolina was one of the most cherished moments in her later years. It was there that she purchased a home and made it her own by gardening. She enjoyed attending church, listening and dancing to music, and traveling to new and exciting places. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering spirit will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.
