David "Dave" Reed Ewing, 93, devoted husband to Barbara Mitchell Ewing, peacefully passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
Born and raised in
Kennett Square, PA, he was the only child of the late Reed Alexander and Louise Kline Ewing.
Dave discovered his musical inclinations at an early age and played the trumpet in his high school band, where he met his bride to be, Barb. Their enduring love blossomed into a beautiful partnership that spanned an incredible 70 years-a testament to their deep bond and unwavering support for one another.
He graduated from Kennett High School and then from the University of Delaware with a degree in chemical engineering. In early 1960s while working at Rohm and Haas, a specialty Chemical company in the Philadelphia area, Dave was involved in applying the "new" computer technology to systems at the company's Chemical plants. This began a lifelong love of emerging technology. He worked at the company until the early 1990s before retiring to
Greenville, SC.
During his retirement, he embraced the game of golf. Playing at Fox Run in Simpsonville with a group of friends for over 15 years, and participating in many annual local Senior Tournaments, and he was thrilled to attend the Masters Tournament twice, cherishing the memories made on those special outings!
His memory will forever be cherished in the heart of his beloved wife, Barb; daughter, Cheryl E. Bird; son-in-law, Gregory Szczepanek; and four grandchildren, Dara Ewing, Richard Bird, III, Caroline, and Gabby Szczepanek; and numerous friends that were like family.
In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by two children, Richard David Ewing and Cynthia Marie Ewing Szczepanek.
A graveside service to honor Dave's life will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Graceland East Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Young Life, 2320 E. North St. Suite NN Greenville SC 29607.
