Barry Groce Obituary

Barry L. Groce, 80, passed away February 21, 2026.

A native of Greer, a son of the late William Henry Groce, Jr. and Alvis Williams Groce; he was inducted into the Greer High School Athletic Hall of Fame, where he was a valued football player in the Class of 1963; 1967 graduate of Newberry College, where he played football all four years; a Veteran of the United States Army; and a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, Greer, serving as Youth Leader, Deacon and Elder. Additionally, he was an Administrator for Greenville Technical College for 31 years. He last served as Director of Veterans Affairs and was President of SCAVA (South Carolina Association of Veterans Administration) 1983-84.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Diane Holmes Groce, of the home; a daughter, Carlen Groce of Nashville, Tennessee; a son, Jason Groce of Charleston, South Carolina; a brother, Bryan Groce (Cecilia) of Fountain Inn, South Carolina; a sister, Barbara Prichard (Rick) of St. George, Utah; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Bill Groce.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at First Presbyterian Church, Greer, conducted by Rev. Will Shelburne.

Visitation will be held 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2026, in the Fellowship Hall of First Presbyterian Church, Greer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Greer, 100 School Street, Greer, SC 29651 or a charity of one's choice.
