Martin Snider Obituary

Martin Henry Snider

Martin Henry Snider, age 86, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026, just one day shy of his 87th birthday. He was born on January 22, 1939, in Binghamton, New York.

Martin attended Cornell University before pursuing his Doctor of Optometry degree at Indiana University in Bloomington. He completed his optometry residency in Houston, Texas, in the mid-1960s. During the 1960s, he also served in the Marine Corps Reserves. He lived in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and later in Annandale, Virginia, until 1968.

Dr. Snider went on to own and operate his own optometry practice in Binghamton, New York, where he cared for patients for many years with professionalism and dedication. In the late 1990s, he also practiced in Newport Beach, Virginia. For the last 25 years of his life, he made his home in Sun City Bluffton, South Carolina, where he became an active and valued member of the community.

An avid swimmer throughout his life, Martin was also a devoted reader and a thoughtful conversationalist who enjoyed exploring ideas. He had a lifelong love of golf and basketball and was a fan of classic movies and jazz. In Sun City, he was a member of the Democratic Club, Tai Chi Club, and Jazz Club, embracing both civic engagement and personal enrichment.

Martin was known for his sweet, friendly disposition and his willingness to help others. Above all, he loved his family deeply and took great pride in his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his sister, Frances (Arnold) Henry; his sons, John (Ellen) Fox-Snider and Charles (Nancy) Snider; and his five grandchildren, Aaron, Dylan, and Zoey Fox-Snider, and Sam and Sage Snider.

He will be remembered for his kindness, intellect, and the steady warmth he brought to those who knew him.
