Dorothy Porter Obituary

Dorothy Stegin Porter, 89, widow of Edwin Theodore Porter, Jr., died Sunday, February 9, 2020, at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Porter was born in Savannah, Georgia on March 19, 1930, a daughter of the late John Joseph Stegin and Rose Bigler Stegin. She grew up in Savannah and graduated from Savannah High School and Armstrong Junior College before moving to Georgetown after her marriage in 1951.

She was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, where she served in many ministries, including Sunday School, Altar Guild and Choir.

She is survived by four children: Sally Zeigler (Gator) of Georgetown; Sissy Rogerson of Murrells Inlet; Ted Porter of Georgetown; and Johnny Porter (Pat) of Mt. Pleasant; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by: a sister, Rose S. Rhodes and two brothers, William S. Stegin and Joseph S. Stegin.

Funeral services will be at eleven o'clock, Friday, February 14, 2020, at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Dr. Dora Gafford. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The Family will receive friends prior to the service on Friday morning between ten until eleven o'clock in the Church Parlor.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to: Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, 901 Highmarket Street, Georgetown, SC 29440; or Tidelands Community Hospice, 2591 N. Fraser Street, Georgetown, SC 29440
