William Langdale Obituary

William Palmer Langdale, Jr. WALTERBORO - Mr. William Palmer Langdale, Jr., age 94, of Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Friday afternoon, May 19, 2016, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. Funeral services will be conducted 3:30pm, Sunday afternoon, May 22, 2016, from Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 7345 Jefferies Highway, Walterboro. The Reverend David Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in the churchyard. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service during a time of visitation beginning at 1:30pm that afternoon in the church sanctuary. Born March 15, 1922 in Colleton County, he was a son of the late William Palmer Langdale, Sr. and the late Mary Utsey Langdale. Mr. Langdale dedicated his life to hard work and possessed a very strong work ethic. He worked in the carpenter shop of Asten Hill in Walterboro. He dearly loved gardening and farming and for many years worked with the Walterboro Stock Yards where he was a well-known fixture by the locals. He also loved law enforcement, having worked with the Colleton County Sherriff's Department as well as served for a period of time as a State Constable, having worked closely with the County's Magistrate courts. He was a longtime member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where he was active in many aspects of the church's work. At his church, he served on the Cemetery Committee for a great number of years, served on the Deacon board where he had served as Chairman of the Deacons and was named as Deacon Emeritus for his long tenure of service, and has also served as a Sunday School Director. As a true outdoorsman, he dearly loved hunting as well as fishing and was a member of Dawn Plantation Hunting Club. Surviving are: his loving wife of sixty-seven years, Mrs. Helen Craven Langdale; a son, Rickey Lynn Langdale, Sr. and his wife Patsy of Walterboro; a daughter, Annette Langdale Woods and her husband Ben of Walterboro; five grandchildren, Angela Hadaway (Jimmy) of Walterboro, Travis Langdale of Chester, Rick Langdale, Jr. (Samantha) of Easley, Erica Pinckney (Jonathan) of Walterboro, and Rebecca Herndon (Kenny) of Walterboro; seven great-grandchildren, Dalton, Renee, Cynthia, Dustyne, Emily, Logan, and Hunter; as well as his daughter-in-law, Diane Crosby Langdale and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis William Langdale in 2002; two sisters; and three brothers. The family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to: Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 7345 Jefferies Highway, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
