William Jowers Obituary

William MacArthur "Mackie" Jowers LADSON - William MacArthur " Mackie " Jowers, 81, of Ladson, SC, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, in Mount Pleasant following an illness. Mackie was born March 19, 1942, in Lake City, South Carolina, a son of James Wilburt ("J.W.") and Dora Mae Eaddy Jowers and raised with his six brothers and sisters by J.W. and Lily C. Daniels Jowers. Mackie graduated from Kingstree High School in 1960 and soon after joined the United States Navy, where he served his country honorably for four years. Mackie worked as a machinist for over 35 years before retiring from Amstar Corporation/ Domino Sugar Bag Company in 2004. Mackie enjoyed fishing, riding his Harley Davidson trike and later his bicycle, and working in his garage and yard. He most enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Survivors include his long-time companion, Christine R. Shull; and his daughters, Amy J. Mikell (Jason) of Charleston, SC, and Myra Michelle Jowers of Ladson, SC. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Riley Ellison Mikell; his sisters, Frances J. McMakin, Regina J. Tanner, and Ernestine M. Perry; his brothers, James Roby Jowers (Emmie) and Levon Jowers (Nanette); and many nieces, nephews and extended family, including the children and grandchildren of Christine Shull, for whom he had great love and affection. Mackie is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dewey C. Jowers, and his brothers-in-law and his sister-in-law. A gathering of Mackie's family and friends will be at 12:00 P.M. Saturday, July 29, 2023, at James A. Dyal Funeral Home in Summerville. Services will follow at 1:00 P.M. in the funeral home chapel. Rites of Committal with Military Honors and Interment will be at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, July 30, 2023, in the Garden of Devotion Cemetery, 800 South Georgetown Highway, Johnsonville, SC 29555.
