William Cumbee Obituary

CUMBEE, William William D. "Tooter" Cumbee, born on December 22, 1938, was called home on August 19, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the lifetime companion and true soul-mate of Louise Hines Cullins. Tooter spent his working years as a cross country truck driver and local cabinet maker. He admired the ocean, loved nature and one of his favorite things was the warm sunshine upon his face on a brisk autumn day. Tooter was a humble, gentle spirit that always spoke kindly to others. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is also leaving behind, three brothers, Jasper, Jimmy and Gene, two sisters-in-law, Trene and Linda all of Charleston, S.C., one step-granddaughter Brenda L. Hines and his extended family (Frankie Hines, Norm Hines Jr., Frank and Vera Weiss, Mark Weiss, Joe Weiss.) A "Celebration of Life" service will be led by Pastor Chad Cornell, of SonRise Independent Baptist Church, at Peacock-Newman Funeral Home in Southport on Tuesday, September 23, at 2 p.m. Ashes will be spread in a nearby meadow at the edge of the woods. A special heartfelt thanks goes out to the wonderful medical staff of the Zimmer Cancer Center and PICU. The extra kindness and love that was expressed by Dr. Ungaro, Dr. Basagoda and Tracy Oyler, SW during this time was a true God send. We could not have made it without you! In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 725 Wellington Ave., Wilmington, NC 28401. PEACOCK-NEWNAM FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICE, SOUTHPORT, N.C.
