William Crosby Obituary

William Jerry Crosby WALTERBORO - Mr. William Jerry Crosby, 55, of Walterboro, entered into rest Sunday evening, May 1, 2022. Born September 10, 1966, in Walterboro, South Carolina, he was the son of Isaiah Crosby and Annie Ruth Bailey Crosby. Jerry was always adventurous and on the go; possessing a generous heart that was always full of love. From a very young age, he began to work alongside his father in the family business, Wildwood Landscape Contractors. After some time, he opened Wildwood Glass Company, specializing in custom glass installations. He then obtained his Unlimited General Contractor License and transitioned the family business into Wildwood Contractors, Inc. where he was at current day serving as President. Under his leadership, the company completed many high-profile projects through-out the Lowcountry of South Carolina. Some of the more notable in the company's portfolio, the renovation of the Historic Colonial Lake in Charleston, the re-development project of downtown Walterboro, development of the Ace Basin Sports Complex, and the renovation of Hutchinson Square in Summerville - a project that won the Engineering and Excellence Award. His work within the Charleston area bestowed him with numerous accolades from the Former Mayor Joe Riley for his excellence in work and the esteemed opportunity to complete the Joe Riley Waterfront Park. Seeing his sons come into the business to carry on the family name filled his heart with great pride. Jerry was an astute businessman and entrepreneur. He has had many business ventures throughout his working career. He, along with his wife, opened the now iconic Forks General Store which is located in the "fork" of Cottageville Highway and Sidney's Road and has been a staple of the community for many years. Another of his partnerships was with his lifelong best friend, Lynn Tanner, in the opening of Walterboro Rental and Equipment in Walterboro, allowing yet another much needed commodity to his hometown. Jerry loved speed. At the age of fourteen, he started in the racing world and in his first year he won the very first championship he vied for at the Summerville Speedway and ever since, racing was in his blood. He had even raced boats. Also, during his childhood, he developed a love for horses. He would attend many of the races long before he could ever go in and would watch and cheer on his family members in their races from the tops of cars outside the gates. That love of horses carried over into his daughter, Dondi. For the past fifteen years, one of his greatest pleasures has been watching, traveling, and supporting her as she has become a champion in barrel racing. He dearly loved breeding and raising beautiful American Quarter Horses. As a member of his community, he was elected to represent District 5 of the Coastal Electric Cooperative Board of Trustees and was currently serving as the Board's Vice Chairman. He was a Master Mason, holding his membership in Bethlehem Lodge, No. 338 - Ancient Free and Accepted Masons in Round O. Surviving are: his wife of thirty-seven years, Donna Alderman Crosby; his parents, Isaiah and Annie Ruth of Walterboro; three children, Colby "Cole" William Crosby and his wife, Lanie Utsey Crosby, Ryan Martin Crosby and his wife, Katie Osteen Crosby, and Dondi LaRyn Crosby all of Walterboro; a grandchild, Colby Elizabeth Crosby; a sister, Ann Crosby Knight of Walterboro; and six nieces and nephews, Jennifer, Logan, Tre', Bryson, Brett, and Lexi. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Jacquelyn Martin Jarrell of Walterboro; a sister-in-law, Missy Alderman Avant and her husband, David, of Walterboro; and a brother-in-law, Mike Woolard of Charleston. He was preceded in death by a sister, Cathy Crosby Woolard. He was also survived by his faithful Boykin spaniel, "Lilly". Funeral services were held 11 o'clock Saturday morning, May 7, 2022, at The First Baptist Church of Walterboro. Interment followed in Glendale Memorial Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed in his memory to: Friends of Colleton County Animal Shelter, 33 Poor Farm Road, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488. ARRANGEMENTS BY: THE BRICE W.
