To Dan and the rest of the Cotter family:
I apologize that this is such a very late condolence. But, I wanted to put into writing what a wonderful man your father was, and what an important part he played in my life. He was an excellent teacher, and wonderful man. I will always remember him with great affection and gratitude.
My condolences to Dan and the rest of your family. Thank you for sharing him to so many people.
Condolences at your loss and be well.
Sincerely,

Hello Dan and the rest of the Cotter Family. I happened across this post and just wanted to offer my thoughts.
Dr. Cotter was my key interview to gain entrance into the University of Kentucky and I'll never forget how much he helped me give the right answers. And then a gracious and giving professor who helped me through that difficult first year of med school. A wonderful man who I'll always remember. Jim Kovach

Ellen, Bill and the Cotter family, I just learned of the passing of your father while visiting Mom for Thanksgiving, she had not remembered to tell me and I'm shocked at this news.
It was an honor knowing your Dad and I looked forward to talking to him on my visits to Lexington. I always learned something, even in small talk.
That is a very empty dining room now from my perspective.
I have misplaced your phone numbers and will try to locate them on the net and give you a call.
My most sincere condolence on the passing of a great man that truly made a difference.

My wife, Pam and I are deeply saddened at the passing of Bill. I worked with him at U.K. for 9 years in the Anatomy dept where we became very close friends, though he was many years my senior. When my wife and I moved to Lexington, Bill, Alice and all their kids treated us as if we were family, having us share in holiday and other family celebrations. Bill and I rode our bicycles many miles around Fayette and surrounding counties and I am so grateful for those memories. Sometimes our wives would accompany us and a great time would be had by all. Pam and I had no family in Kentucky, so when our son was born, Bill and Alice became surrogate grandparents, and Bryan loved his "grumpy Bill". Even though Pam and I have not been in touch with Bill in a number of years, he will really be missed by us. Our prayers go out to the kids and grandkids at this loss.

To the Cotter family. Bill and Alice treated us and accepted us as family. The bike rides, camping, Thanksgiving dinners, UK daily work, personal advice and support. There are more events than we can list that make up the wonderful memories we have of our dear friends. Our prayers and love are with each of you.

Dr. Cotter was the hardest and most wonderful professor I had at the College of Charleston. I was terrified and adored him at the same time. A few of the other pre-med students and I went to see him when we were together for our 50th reunion. He was still our Dr. Cotter - fascinating! I would like for his children and grandchildren to know how much he meant to me and how loved he was by his pre-med students.

Dr. William Cotter was the hardest and best professor I ever had. I worked hard in every class that I took under him at the College of Charleston and his Pre-med students loved him. I would like for his children and grandchildren to know how much he was loved and appreciated.
