1940 - 2026
Linda Furr Hargett
Summerville - Linda Furr Hargett, 85, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, in Summerville, South Carolina. Born on July 28, 1940, in Charlotte, North Carolina, Linda lived a life dedicated to family, faith, and education.
A proud graduate of East Mecklenburg High School in 1958, Linda pursued higher education with determination and excellence. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education, magna cum laude, from Western Carolina College in 1962, and subsequently a Master of Science in education from the University of Tennessee in 1963. Her passion for teaching led her to an impactful career as a high school teacher in West Germany, New York, Virginia, and South Carolina. She also served as an assistant education professor at her alma mater, Western Carolina College. Linda's dedication to education extended beyond traditional classrooms; she was a gifted teacher who shared her love of learning with students from diverse backgrounds.
Linda's faith in God was central to her life. She was an active member of Columbia Baptist Church in Falls Church, Virginia, and later Summerville Baptist Church in Summerville, South Carolina. She helped establish two new churches abroad-in Russia and the Czech Republic-leaving a legacy of spiritual growth and connection.
In addition to her work as an educator and church leader, Linda had a successful career as a Realtor in the Summerville and North Charleston area for thirty years. Her ability to connect with people and dedication to serving others was evident in every aspect of her professional life.
Linda found joy in ministry within her church communities and shared her talents by teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) to Internationals in America. Her warmth and generosity ministered to over three hundred Internationals during a ten-year period at Summerville Baptist Church. God's Word teaches us that "You will recognize them by their fruits" (Matthew: 7:16); "they teach the doctrine of Christ and exhibit the fruit of the Spirit" (Galatians 5:22-23).
Surviving her devoted husband, Larry, children, Mark, Travis and Wife Kelly, and Alan and Wife, Kathryn as well as thirteen grandchildren, family and friends who cherished her presence. Predeceased by her brother David Furr of Mint Hill, NC.
Linda's life was one of purpose, compassion, and excellence.
