Wayne was well liked among those who got to know him and My late husband always talked kindly and respectful of him even in telling old tales. My condolences to everyone who will miss him and may god grant you some comfort in your grief.

I am so sorry to hear about Wayne's death. He loved to hunt and, years ago, accompanied me to a Greenwood County, S.C., shooting preserve where we shot pheasants. I did a story about the preserve in The Augusta Chronicle. He may have been along with his brother, Pat, Sid Newton and I when we shot birds at Admiral Hawes' shooting preserve near Thomson, Ga. The highlight of the trip was when Wayne's mom out in Blythe cooked all those birds. I'll never forget her kindness and how great those chukar partridges, quail and pheasant tasted. Wayne was a great person and will be missed. Bill Baab, Outdoor Editor (retired), The Augusta Chronicle.
