Walter Hawkins Obituary

HAWKINS, Walter WALTERBORO - Mr. Walter Lucian Hawkins, 86, of 296 Koger Road, in Walterboro, died Sunday morning, February 18, 2007, at the Ralph H. Johnson Veteran's Administration Hospital in Charleston. He was the widow of Mrs. Grace Carlton Hawkins. Mr. Hawkins was born September 30, 1920, in Lula, Mississippi, and was a son of the late Lucian Moland Hawkins and Myrtle Johnson Hawkins Adcock. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and was a retired Heavy Equipment Operator. He was also a master mason holding his fifty-year membership and was a member of the Scottish Rite. He will be remembered for his love of hunting, fresh water fishing, shrimping, and always sharing a good joke with those around him. He was simply known for loving life and living it to its fullest potential. Surviving him are: three sons and daughters-in-law, John Michael Hawkins and Kay of Walterboro, Walter Russell Hawkins and Dottie of Holly Hill, David Carlton Hawkins and Sharon of Taylor, Texas; two brothers, Leo Hawkins of Islandton and Joe Hawkins of Mississippi; a sister, Lucille Nored of Mississippi; and a special friend, Jackquelin Green of Walterboro. There are eight grandchildren that also survive. Family and friends are invited to attend his memorial service, 6 o'clock, Wednesday evening, February 21, 2007, in The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to: Colleton County Relay for Life, 5900 Core Road, Suite 504, North Charleston, SC 29406.
