Walter Hager Obituary

Walter James Hager, III CHARLESTON - Reverend Walter James Hager, III, 82, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2011. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service on May 7, 2011, at eleven o'clock at New Life Family Center, formerly New Testament Gospel Center, 435 Martin Road, Midway, Georgia. Burial will be private. Arrangements by PALMETTO CREMATION SOCIETY, Charleston, South Carolina. James Hager was born on October 27, 1928, in Hagerstown, Maryland. Son of Walter James Hager, II and Mrs. Maude Johnson Hager, he served as pastor at New Testament Gospel Center, now New Life Family Center, and was supervisor of mosquito control in Liberty County, Georgia. He is survived by his wife, Marguerite Davis-Hager; two sons, Walter James Hager, IV and Thomas Ennis Hager; and one daughter, Nita McLaughlin of Midway, Georgia. He has three step-daughters; Deborah (wife of George Olney) of Charleston, South Carolina, Mackie (wife of Bob Keller) of Vero Beach, Florida and Robin Bruer of North Charleston, South Carolina. There are also five Grandchildren, four Step-Grandchildren, nine Great Grandchildren, and one very special Daughter-In-Law, Mrs. Deborah Hager of Midway, Georgia. A very caring and loving man, his favorite sayings were, "Let the good times roll" and "Everything is going to be all right". Reverend Hager was preceded in death by his first wife of forty-six years, Reverend Martha Lucas Hager. During those forty-six years, the Holy Spirit led both of them to organize and build a church and school. The family wishes to thank everyone who helped attain this vision. Gratitude is also offered to the caretakers, doctors and especially Odyssey Hospice of Charleston, to the many friends and to several special people who made every day a great one for James. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Lutheran Church of Redeemer, 714 Riverdale Drive, Charleston, South Carolina 29407 or New Life Family Center, 435 Martin Road, Midway Georgia 31320, or to the church of your choice.
