Wade Damron Obituary

DAMRON, Wade COLUMBIA - Service with full military honors and masonic rites for Command Sergeant Major (CSM) (Ret)Wade Damron, 71, will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of American Legion Post 182. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Woodyard Fund or Shriners' Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, S.C. 29605. Visitation will be Sunday 6-8 p.m at the funeral home. CSM Damron died Thursday, February 16, 2006. Born in Dingess, W.Va., he was a son of the late William and Cleo Marcum Damron. A graduate of USC, he retired as Sergeant Major after twenty years in the U.S. Army. He was awarded Silver Stars for Gallantry in Action for service in Korea and in Vietnam, Bronze Star with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal with five Oak Leaf Clusters, Combat Infantry Badge with Star and Combat Medical Badge (Korea). He was personnel director at Richland Memorial Hospital and BlueCross/Blue Shield before retiring from Garnet Distribution as president. CSM Damron was a member of Ft. Jackson Masonic Lodge #374, Scottish Rite, Jamil Shrine Temple, VFW #641 and past Post Commander of the American Legion #182. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and golfing. Surviving are his wife, Joan; daughters, Gina Harrelson of Sunset Beach, N.C. and Jeri McKee of Columbia; son, Patrick Damron of Charleston; grandson and light of his life , Chase McKee; brothers, Ronnie Damron,Billy Gene Damron, Roger Damron, George Damron and Gary Damron and sisters, Patricia Grubb, Colleen Stewart, Debbie Copley and Tonya Perry, all of Dingess, V.Va.
