Victoria Leland Obituary

Victoria Moulin Leland CHARLESTON - Victoria "Vicki" Moulin Leland, 93, of Charleston, SC, a lady kind and gentle to the end, passed on peacefully, January 24, 2013. She had lived a full life. A memorial service was held Saturday, January 26, 2013 in the J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. Burial services were private at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, Inc., Covington, Louisiana. Born November 22, 1919 in Hollywood, CA, daughter of Frederick A. Moulin and Ruby Crawford Moulin, Vicki was the youngest of four children. She was close to her sister, Genevieve, graduated from Hollywood High, and played the piano. She remarked that growing up in California she embraced all that was "new." Her first husband, pilot Harold R. Taylor, was killed in action during WWII. With her second husband, Edwin A. Leland, Jr., she moved to Louisiana, built a life in New Orleans and embraced all that was "old." She learned to cook the creole way with bell pepper, onion, celery and later adding garlic. She was a secretary for the Times Picayune newspaper from 1947-1951, leaving there to become secretary of the Orleans Parish School Board. During this time she raised a daughter, took care of her in-laws, and maintained family ties in California. After she and Eddie retired they traveled the world visiting Europe several times and Central and South America. Throughout her life Vicki enjoyed bridge games, classical music, and attending church. When Eddie died Vicki moved to Charleston to be closer to family. She will be remembered for her devoted care to Eddie in his final years, trips to the circus with her grandchildren, and suppers at her big, round dining room table. Sometimes she lay down newspaper and we would enjoy boiled crabs and crayfish with beer for the adults and root beer for the kids. She is survived by her former son-in-law, Dr. George H. Provosty (Lynn) of Lumberton, NC; daughter, Elizabeth Leland Provosty of Charleston, SC; granddaughter, Yvette Provosty (Eric Mullen) of Medford, OR; grandson, Rene' Provosty of Columbia, SC; grandson, George Provosty, Jr (Hayley) of Mt Pleasant, SC, great grandchildren (Nicole, Olivia, Andrew, Marcus), nieces, and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Arcadia Close, Bishop Gadsden, for their care of Vicki in her later years. Memorials may be made to the Charleston Symphony Orchestra or the charity of your choice. A memorial message may be sent to the family by visiting the website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.
