Vera Smyth Obituary

Dear Matthew and Becky,
Your mom was my Math and French teacher at Seton High school in Endicott. But more, she got me through some tough times. She was a gem. Her smile could light up a room.May God give you peace and comfort in these days ahead. I am sure that a mother's love transcends time and space and she will always be with you.

Becky and to the rest of the Smyth family,
I am truely sorry for your loss. I knew you were very close with your mother, and it's never easy to say goodbye. Every time you see that star blinking brightly in the sky you know your mother is watching over you and still guiding you in the right direction. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in this time of need. Your EMS family will always take care of you!

I am so sorry for your loss. I am shocked and very saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs. Smyth. She was my teacher at SOA and I will always remember her with love. God be with you.

To Vera's family,
I was so shocked to hear of Vera's sudden but peaceful death. I taught with Vera at Seton Catholic High in Endicott, NY for three years. Vera was a great person, bright, enthusiastic, fun, witty, and a good teacher. I remember her most as a friend who brightened and enriched my life as well as many others. When I read her obituary of 11/19/07, I was struck by all she accomplished in her life, both professionally and spiritually. May God comfort her children and grandchild in their deep sorrow and loss. My prayers for you all.
May we all be inspired to try to be a better person as Vera showed us the way. I regret that I could not come to the funeral.

To my Mombie -
Little did I know that when I talked to you on Tuesday night, it would be the last time I would hear your voice. It would be the last time I would hear you say "I love you." I cannot express the emptiness and incredible despair that shook me to me very soul when I turned the corner and found you Wednesday morning. I still cannot believe that you are gone from this earth. You have been my rock, my role model, and most of all my best friend. In my darkest hours, saddest moments, I have always known you were there for me. In the last few months it was you who taught me to be a mother to Grace. I miss you, mom, more that words can say. As you always sang to me as a little girl:
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are gray. You'll never know dear, how much I love you. Please don't take my sunshine away.
The other night dear, when I was sleeping, I dreamt I held you in my arms. But when I woke up, I was mistaken, and I hung my head and cried.

I was so shocked to hear about the passing of Vera. We took a class together a few years back and caught up on everything going on in each others life. We had planned to get together, but things didn't work out. You never know what life is going to bring us. May God help you all through this time.

My heart goes out to you. I was lucky enough to have Ms. Smyth as my homeroom and algebra teacher back in high school. I will always remember her smiles, her frowns if you walked in late to class, and her overwhelming enthusiasm and love. She inspired me in so many ways and I am truly blessed to have known her in my life.

Vera was an extraordinary person--friendly, unassuming, and fun. As a former neighbor and colleague, I am deeply saddened to hear of her loss. My daughter, who babysat for Matthew and Rebecca, also sends her condolences. Vera's life reflected love, humility, and joy. What a treasure!!

We were so sorry to hear today of Vera's passing. She was a wonderful teacher, colleague, and friend. A true professional in every way. The number of lives she influenced for the better will never be known. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family during this difficult time. Please take comfort in the celebration that was her life.

I am shocked and deeply saddened by Vera's death. As a young woman she spent several years as a member of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul. It was then that we taught together at Seton Catholic High School in Endicott, NY. We have remained in contact sporadically through the years and I rejoiced with her at the birth of her first grandchild in July. How happy I am that she had that special joy before going home to God.
I shall miss her e-mails and her always late arriving Christmas cards! Vera was a friend I treasured and I wish I were closer to attend her wake and funeral.
Be assure of my prayers as you adjust to life without her vibrant presence.

To the Smyth Family you have my deepest sympathy. May you find comfort in the Savior during your hour of bereavement. Mrs. Smyth was one of LaNice's favorite teacher at SOA. She talked of her often. Remember all the good times, laugh and rejoice how that she is at peace with the Lord.

I was very chocked when I got the news of Vera's death I had to call a fellow parishioner to find out if what I heard was right, To the family of Vera Smyth, Accept our sympathy Only God can really console you at this time of grief and that is by know that she is in a better place where there are no worries. I am a lector in the church and she was always there for me when I needed somebody to take my readings when I cannot make it to church because of family emergency, she never said no to me each time I called her to help me out, and she thought my daughter and many other children in the church when they were going through first communion etc, I could go on and on and the list of her love and care will not stop because she was very good.
Blessed Scarament Church has lost an Icon and I dont know how this void can be filled.
May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace.

I have to reiterate the words of Anne Godbee in reference to Vera. She was truly a very intelligent, caring woman with a fine sense of humor,too. Although I was privileged to work with Vera at the district office only a few years in Berkeley county before I moved to Columbia, I really enjoyed knowing and working with her and am so sorry to hear of her death. God be with you all. We know that Vera is with him.

Vera's passing left me stunned. She was a fellow choir member and by chance I borrowed an item from her folder Tuesday night to make a copy. I took special care to ensure I returned it to her on Wednesday. It was not to be.
Her passing leaves me very sad, but I take comfort in having known her and will celebrate the many good things she did in her life. She was an inspiration to us all and we will miss her. In this time of pain and grief, may you take both pride and comfort in the high regard in which she was held by all who knew her. My wife and I will remember her and you in prayer. God love you all.

To Professor Smyth's family,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I had her for math this semester at the College of Charleston and she was one of the nicest women I have ever met. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you.

I am so sorry for the loss of this wonderful woman and very dear friend. For over thirty years Vera was a source of joy and comfort.

All of us who knew and loved Vera respected her intelligence, appreciated her thoughtfulness, and were confident of her friendship and trust.

One of my fondest memories is of the time she arranged a "party" for a mutual friend who had passed away. We met at his resting place on the anniversary of his death, shared a glass of wine (or two?) and poured a little on his grave so that he could share in the event. I invite all of her friends to meet me next year on November 28th to celebrate Vera's life after we have had time to heal and recover.

She was a great friend and I shall miss her greatly.

I wanted to say how much I enjoyed your mom as my patient. I want to send our condolescences from the office of Dr. Elmer K. Smith. I know how much Dr. Smith thought of your mom and we did too. He was probably standing at the gates of heaven holding the door open for his beautiful friend! This news came to us as a great surprise and of great sadness. Your mom loved you all so much!! And Becky, because we are closest to you, she was sooo very proud of you and your accomplishments!!! She was so excited about everything currently in your life!! Our hearts and prayers are with you all, and I know that GOD is always in control of each and every breath we take!! He loved your mom so much and although it is hard to understand, GOD will give you all the peace that passes all understanding. I am so sorry to learn of Vera's passing. She was a fantastic colleague and teacher who did so much for mathematics education throughout South Carolina. I am fortunate to have had the privilege of knowing her. And even more so to have my son, Ry, be a math student of hers at the College of Charleston. Vera will be missed dearly. I will especially miss our early Sunday mornings before the children come for their religious education program.
