Velma Joyner Obituary

JOYNER, Velma Mrs. Velma Reta Cantley Joyner, age 86, widow of the late Robert Joyner, of North Charleston, passed away in the late morning hours on Sunday, January 20, 2008 at a local hospital. Friends and family of Mrs. Joyner are invited to attend her funeral service on Friday, January 25, 2008 at 12:00 noon at CAROLINA MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC. Burial will immediately follow at Carolina Memorial Park. A Visitation will take place from 10:00 am until the time of service. Mrs. Velma Reta Cantley Joyner was born on September 4, 1921 to Mr. Frances C. Cantley and Mrs. Mabel Elizabeth Walters Cantley in Kingstree, SC. She was a member of The Trident Baptist Church. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her. Survivors include her five daughters, Judy Ikerman, and her husband Larry, of North Charleston, Geri Vaden, wife of the late Richard Vaden, of Inverness, FL, Debra King of Moncks Corner, Linda Gail Odom , and her husband Rick, of Summerville, SC, and June Gardner and her husband David, of Deltona, FL; one son, Robert 'Tommy' Joyner, Jr. and his wife Cheryl, of Huntsville, AL; one brother, Kelso Cantley, husband of the late Iva Nell, of Myrtle Beach; one sister, Hazelene 'Peachie' Morris and her husband Ollie, of Andrews, SC; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Joyner was preceded in death by her parents, the late Mr. Frances C. Cantley and the late Mrs. Mabel Elizabeth Walters Cantley, and her husband, the late Robert T. Joyner, Sr; one brother, the late Herbert Cantley; four sisters, the late Gertie Brydic, the late Edith Rodgerson, the late Marion Ward and the late Annie Sue Ward. Flowers will be accepted at the funeral home. Online memorials may be made at www.carolinamemorial.com. Today would have been your 87th birthday! You are in my thoughts daily and I miss you very much. I know that you are in a better place but you left me too suddenly, I was not prepared, it has been hard to adjust with you gone. I know you were ready to be with dad and I am happy you are together.
