Uncle Tommy,

God has called you home and even though I wasn't there, I know that you knew that we loved and appreciated you very much. You will always be an inspiration to me.

Salana,

My heart is still heavy since Lena called me with the news about Tommy. Girl, I feel so weak talking about him. I spoke to him many times since your mom died. He sounded very strong, and intelligent as usual, with a heavy heart about Marshitha. We also spoke about you, and how well you were handling your mom's death.

Tommy sent me many letters of encouragement back in the 70's when I were in school. I still remember the beautiful stationeries he wrote on remimding me to attend church on Sundays, and not sleep all day.

I have been thinking about how Lena, and Marshithia wanted me to hang around with Tommy to assist him with the wheel chair while he drove to Dunbar for Bible class, and other places. My children thought I made up the stories I have been telling them about a family friend, and church brother with no legs driving all over town, and out of town in a green car, and I was his helper. Yeah, right. Tommy handle that chair all by himself (from the back seat) while i were in amazed of his positive attitude. Tommy also was a very fast driver. As i complained about his fast driving, he told me to leave him alone, and pray that we get to the Bible class safely, cause he was late. I remember those days very well.

God has really blessed us with a caring, and God loving young man.

I also remembered when he prayed back at Jacksonville Road he would always say "God please help us to condesend to men of lower-estate."

I am proud to say I have nothing but positive, and pleasant memories about your dad; salena, and other family members, plus his Church family, friends, and most of all his medical care teams who kept him functioning all these years with the help of God.

I will send my sympathy gift to the funeral home as you requested.

May God have mercy on his soul forever.

Love,

Pinkie, and family

Chaplain Gerig Huggins

I have never met a more extraordinary man than Thomas Durant. Each time I visited him, he was glad to give God praise, honor and glory. As a chaplain, each time I visited him I left feeling as though I was the one ministered to.

Surely Thomas has heard the words, "Well done, My good and faithful servant! Enter in to the joy of the Lord."

Rest my friend, in the eternal arms of our Father's goodness and blessings. I will miss you, but I will see you soon.
