Thomas Armold Obituary

Thomas Earl Armold GREENVILLE, NC - Mr. Thomas Earl "Tom" Arnold, 89, passed away quietly at his home, after a brief battle with cancer, on Wednesday, May 24, 2017. Mr. Arnold, born in Pitt County, NC, 1928, and lived in Charleston, SC, more than 50 years. He was the loving husband to Betsy Brown Bailey Arnold for more than 50 years until her passing in 2005. He was the son of the late Moye and Effie Mae Arnold. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1945 and retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer in 1966. During his military career he served in both World War II and the Korean War and received the World War II Victory Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Following his military service he made his home in John's Island, SC, where he worked at Westvaco paper mill until he retired in 1993. Tom was a member and Past Master of the Fidelity Masonic Lodge #304 A.F.M. in John's Island. He served the Lodge as treasurer from 1990 until 2008. He was also an active member of the Omar Shrine Temple in Mt. Pleasant, SC, for more than 20 years. In 2010, he made his home in Greenville, NC. In addition, to his wife and parents, Mr. Arnold was preceded in death by a brother, Milton Moye Arnold. He is survived by his family; son, Thomas Earl Arnold Jr. of Greenville, FL; daughter, Judy Ann Arnold of Charleston, SC; grandchildren, Robin Michelle Arnold Carter of Atlanta, GA, Thomas Earl Arnold III of Charleston, SC, and Jordan Nicole Arnold Boswell of Fort Walton Beach, FL; four great- grandchildren; Keenan, Caddock, Keely, and Isabelle. A graveside service will be conducted Sunday at 2 PM in Pinewood Memorial Park, NC officiated by Rev. Bobby Thomas.
