I had the honor to first meet Master Chief Power in 2007 when I accompanied my parents to the funeral for Chief Johnny Johnson at Arlington National Cemetery. Master Chief Power had served with my father QM3(SS) Leo Shea on the USS Grenadier (SS-525). My father had reconnected with Master Chief Power at a USS Grenadier Reunion. While they had not seen each other in over 50 years, they immediately rekindled a special bond. My Dad and Mother had great admiration for both Stacey and Elaine. They truly enjoyed their company and friendship.
After my Father passed away in 2007, I continued to bring my Mother to the USS Grenadier Reunions. We spent many days and evenings with the Powers. Master Chief Power's stories about his service were tremendous, especially hearing about his time (and antics) on the Presidential Yacht Williamsburg. In the short time that I got to know Master Chief Power, as well as Elaine, I came to highly admire and respect him.
From my Mother Bridget Shea and myself, please accept our sincerest condolences.
Fair winds and following seas, Master Chief. You stand relieved. We have the watch.

Katy, It was a pleasure seeing your Dad at church. He would bring a smile to my face and sometimes he made me laugh. His service to our country should be an inspiration to many. Thank you for sharing him with us. May God give your family peace at this time.
