Sidney Heatley Obituary

Sidney Milton Heatley DUNDEE TOWNSHIP, IL - Sidney Milton Heatley, age 87, of Dundee Township, passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born on October 27, 1928 in Moncks Corner, South Carolina to Shufford T. and Bertha (nee Thornley) Heatley. Sidney graduated and was a proud alumnus of Clemson University, Ceramic Engineering Department (College of Engineering) in Charleston, South Carolina. He continued his education at the Harvard Business School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Sidney served in the Korean War as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He began his career at Babcock and Wilcox. Later, he joined Seymour of Sycamore where he became President. Sidney was responsible for the development of water-based spray paint, which was patented and became an industry standard. He served in a number of industry organizations, including presiding over the Illinois Paint and Coatings organization. For over 40 years Sidney served in many roles at St. James Episcopal Church in Dundee, Illinois, including multiple terms as Senior Warden and Treasurer. He was also a member of the Dundee Township Rotary Club. Recently, Sidney was commemorated for being a 60-year-member of the Free Masons. Survivors include his children, Kimberly (Francois) de Visscher, Christopher (Denise) Heatley and Pamela Heatley; his three grandchildren, Brienne (Jeffrey) Kapaldo, Nolan C. Heatley and Brandon J. Heatley. Other survivors include his sister, Susan Ferguson, several nieces and nephews, and cousins. A Funeral Mass celebrating Sidney's life will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 11:30 at the St. James Episcopal Church, 516 Washington Street (Corner of 6th & Washington Streets) in West Dundee with the Rev. Don Frye, Rector officiating. Inurnment will follow in the St. James Churchyard. Memorials may be made to St. James Episcopal Church- 516 Washington St. West Dundee, IL 60118.
