Ruth Mapes Obituary

MAPES, Ruth Ruth Mapes, 96, of Mount Pleasant, died January 21, 2008 at her residence. A memorial service was held January 28, at The Palms of Mount Pleasant (Cooper Hall). Born in New York City to Frederick Straus and Elizabeth Stack, she began a long career with General Motors in 1932, highlighted by her position as secretary to its Chairman of the Board. After retirement she devoted herself to charitable organizations of the Catholic Church and was a faithful communicant of Christ Our King. She is survived by her daughter, Maureen Myers, of Charleston, her grandson, Thomas Engelhart (Myers), of Paris, France, and her sister, Norma Slater, of Wayne, New Jersey; she was preceded in death by husbands, Charles M. Brady, Martin J. Moffatt and D. Roland Mapes. Her wit, her smile, and her style will be long remembered and her sparkling personality is missed by all lucky enough to have known her. Memorials may be made to the John Ancrum SPCA. Visit our guestbook at www.charleston.net/deaths.

Dear Maureen,

Your mom was one of our favorites at the Franke Home. A memorable personality, indeed! And always attentive, patient, and lively with my mom, Mary Perry.

Please accept our condolences. And know that you and your mom, both, helped make our lives a little more interesting and a little less humdrum.

Love,
Nancy Perry
