Ruth Hurt Obituary

Ruth M. Hurt Mt. Pleasant - Ruth M. Headden Hurt passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, August 3. Born in Bamberg, SC to Lever and Sabra Zeigler Headden, she was the second of five children. Her favorite pastime growing up was fishing on the Edisto River with her parents. As an adult, she shared her passion with her children and grandchildren as she frequented the waterways of the low country. Ruth had a deep curiosity about how things worked. She could figure out how to fix almost anything. She also had a strong creative streak that inspired many projects from quilts, to baskets, to dress making, to dolls. Well into her 80s, she continued to hybridize camellias, which she shared with friends and family. Backyard birding brought her joy into her 90s. Ruth had a great sense of humor and was always ready for a chuckle. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters (Lib Scott, Lois Maples, and Audrey Taylor) and her brother (Lever Headden, Jr.). Ruth is sadly missed by her children; Donna H. Scott (Will), Janice Slattery and Al Hurt. Also, surviving are her grandchildren: Cassidy Hurt; Jeff and Susan Slattery, Jan Cherry, and Emerald Herring; Ansley Scott and Laine Scott-Nelson. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren. A private burial will take place at a later date. Visit our guestbook at legacy.com/obituaries/charleston

Mrs. Hurt was the nicest person ever. She was my Aunt Donna's Mom and I spoke with her many times through the years.

Mrs. Hurt, best wishes to you in the hereafter. You deserve it as much as anyone I have known.

Love,

Scott Allsbrook
