Roger Ritchie Obituary

Roger James "Buddy" Ritchie, age 76, of Cross, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Friday morning at his home. He was a retired maintenance mechanic with Santee Cooper and will be fondly remembered for his dedication to his work and his unwavering support for his loved ones. Buddy was born October 2, 1949, in Irvington, New Jersey, the son of Edward James Reilly and Helen Moncrief Ratcliffe Reilly. He graduated from Tom's River High School, where he formed friendships and memories that lasted a lifetime. A United States Navy veteran, Buddy served his country during the Vietnam War. After his service, he worked as a maintenance mechanic at Santee Cooper, earning respect from colleagues for his skill and diligence. Buddy was a man of faith, devoted to the Catholic Church. He was also a Mason and an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). Known for his love of the South Carolina Gamecocks, Buddy was a true fan-so much so that he proudly wore a Gamecock tattoo. He enjoyed watching "The Young & The Restless," faithfully recording and viewing each episode at 7:00 PM every night. Above all, Buddy loved spending time with his family and helping those he cared about. In addition to his parents, Buddy was preceded in death by two daughters, Lynne Moore and Charity Havis. He is survived by his loving fiancé, Wendy Benton; three daughters, Kimberly Schaller of Eufala, AL, Cher Connelly of Knoxville, TN, and Melissa Joseph of Walterboro, SC; a son, Josh Benton and Ronnie of Santee; a sister, Barbara Lockwood and Wayne of Manchester, NJ; fifteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two nieces and a nephew. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and friends. Arrangements are incomplete at this time. Buddy will be deeply missed, but his spirit, love, and laughter will remain with us always.
