Robert Tarpley Obituary

Robert "Bob" P. Tarpley Summerville - Robert P. Tarpley, "Bob," passed quietly on the evening of July 3, 2018, once again reunited with his sweetheart and wife of over 60 years, Lou. Bob was born and raised in High Sholes, Georgia, one of 9 children. Bob joined the Navy in March of 1950 and had a distinguished 30-year career in communications, retiring with the rank of Commander in 1980. His duties took him to many postings all over the world including Philippines, Puerto Rico, Charleston, Diego Garcia, and Florida naval bases as well as six different ships. After leaving the Navy, Bob went into federal civil service for many years and later fully retired to spend many hours golfing and gardening. Alongside his hobbies, Bob and Lou devoted time to Habitat for Humanity, Lowcountry Food Bank, and their church Peace Presbyterian. He was a loving father to and survived by two children, Debbie Tarpley (Ed) and Patti Connors, grandfather to four girls, Morgan, Laura, Sarah, and Audrey, and great-grandfather to Maverick. Bob is survived by his loving family and many lifelong friends. Visitation will be held at Carolina Memorial Park (7113 Rivers Ave. North Charleston, SC) on Friday July 13th from 5pm to 7pm. Services will be held at Peace Presbyterian Church (174 Londonderry Rd. Goose Creek, SC) on Saturday July 14th at 10am to be directly followed by internment at Carolina Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Berkeley County Habitat or to The ARK of SC, Alzheimer's Family Support Services.
