She went to Bishop England High School and Villanova University. She taught English for many years. She moved to North Carolina, where she met and married Bill Halterman in 1981. She worked as an office manager for several companies in Greensboro and Morehead City. After her husband's death in 2007, she moved to Charleston, SC. Rita lived at St. James Place on James Island. She loved this community and its friendly atmosphere. She was a very social person and loved meeting the other residents. She would arrange ice cream socials and exercise groups. Rita loved feeding the fish in their pond and other wildlife in the area. Upon coming back to Charleston, she reached out to her high school classmates and helped arrange reunions. She really enjoyed having lunch and dinner with her close friends. Rita is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Halterman; her brother, Tommy Nolen; sisters, Mary Nolen Duc, Charlotte Nolen Hughes and Jean Nolen Jennings. Rita is survived by her brother, Edward Nolen (Morgan); her sisters, Ruth Nolen Close, Fay Nolen Clippard (Jim), Fran Nolen, Cynthia Nolen and Toni Nolen Franklin (Jack), as well as 20 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews. Rita became a member of our family many decades ago, when she married my Uncle Bill. My Mom and I enjoyed visiting them at their home in North Carolina. She will be missed. Rest in Peace, Rita.

Rita was my biological father Harold Haltermans sister-in law. She took care of me for several months when I was a baby. She said I brought her great joy when I was with her. May she Rest In Peace.
