Richard Koester Obituary

Richard Todd Koester MT. PLEASANT - Richard Todd Koester, 72, husband of Linda Faye Lemming Koester entered into eternal rest Sunday, February 5, 2023. His Funeral Service will be held Sunday, February 12, 2023, in the Church of The Holy Cross, 2520 Middle Street, at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Rd. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel. Richard was born on August 22, 1950, to Margaret Kasper Koester and Thomas Frederick Koester, Jr. in Pinopolis, SC. For most of his life, he lived in Mount Pleasant, SC. When he was a little boy, he enjoyed playing on the many dirt roads of Mount Pleasant with its population of under 4,000. Richard attended Porter Military Academy, Moultrie High School and the University of SC. He loved his Gamecocks and was a loyal fan through thick and thin. Richard retired from the Department of Juvenile Justice. He truly cared about the teenagers he worked with throughout those years. Forever the optimist, he was part of the Optimist Club of Charleston for over thirty years serving as president, Christmas tree seller, and organizer of events for the Female Athlete of the Year Banquet. Richard loved the Lord and showed that love in the way he lived. He never met a stranger and saw good in all he met. He loved the Church of the Holy Cross on Sullivan's Island. He loved his friends and his family. He loved his cats, especially "The Diva" cat who always got her way with him. He was also loyal. If he said he was going to do something, he did. Whether it was to attend his life group to learn more about the Lord, help a friend or family, or support his Gamecocks, Richard was committed to doing that. Richard is survived by his wife of 37 years, Linda; his brother, Fred; sister-in-law, Rose; and nephews, Stefan and Thomas. He is survived by his Uncle Alan, several cousins, and many friends. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, mother-in-law, and aunts and uncles. His wife would like to thank all of their friends and family for the many prayers and his doctors and nurses on the Neuroscience ICU at MUSC for all of the loving care they gave him. Memorial donations can be made to the Church of the Holy Cross, 2520 Middle St., Sullivan's Island, SC 29482, Charleston Animal Society, 2455 Remount Rd., N. Charleston, SC 29406 or East Cooper Community Outreach, 1145 6 Mile Rd., Mt. Pleasant, SC 29466. Rest well in our Lord's arms, Richard. We look forward to rejoicing with you in heaven.
