Richard (Dick) S. Blanchard Mt. Pleasant - Richard (Dick) S. Blanchard Sr., 86, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, and Hendersonville, North Carolina, died October 18, 2021, at home surrounded by his immediate family. The family invites attendees to wear Citadel blue. An interment service will be held at Carolina Memorial Gardens, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406, at 2:00 PM. He was born on Sullivan's Island July 9, 1935, to the late Daniel Blanchard and Grace Blanchard and grew up on the island. He graduated from Moultrie High School in 1953 and The Citadel in 1957. Dick worked in the transportation business in both trucking and steamship lines, retiring from Estes Express Lines in 1997. He was a past president of the Charleston Traffic Club, the National Defense Transportation Association, and Harmon Lodge. He loved his Citadel Bulldogs and attended many games over the years with his wife and family. Formerly, he was an avid golfer and a member of the "Rascals" at Charleston Municipal Golf Course. He was a volunteer coach and a Scoutmaster in his younger years. Dick is remembered for loving his family fiercely and for his quick wit. He rarely met a stranger and greeted everyone with a warm smile with his bright blue eyes and a firm handshake. Richard is survived by his wife of 62 years, Roberta B. Blanchard; two children, Rick Blanchard and his wife, Laura, of Summerville, SC, and Rene' Severns and her husband, Dan, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; along with five grandchildren, Kathryn Holley (Ike), Kyle Severns, Stockton Blanchard (Cassidy), Shelby Severns, and Laura Grace Blanchard; along with one great-granddaughter, Amelia Holley. He is survived by two siblings, Elizabeth (Betty) Imsande of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Alfred (Al) Blanchard and his wife, Deborah, of Birmingham, AL; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Brothers, Eugene (Gene) Blanchard and Daniel (Danny) Blanchard preceded Dick in death. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations or honorariums to be made to Charleston Pet Helpers, The Citadel Foundation- Class of '57, or Sunrise Presbyterian Church.
